Commercial ComplianceThe Government of Mizoram on June 18, 2026, issued a circular regarding mandatory installation of Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) in Public Service Vehicles.

The following has been stated:-

•The Transport Department has reiterated compliance with Rule 125H of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, mandating AIS-140-compliant Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) and Emergency Buttons in specified public service vehicles. 

•Notifications issued between 2023 and 2024 made registration and activation of VLTDs compulsory for both new and eligible existing vehicles, while certain older taxis, maxicabs, and city buses received exemptions. 

•Grace periods were also provided until March 07, 2026. 

•Registering Authorities have been directed not to grant or renew Fitness Certificates or Permits for covered vehicles unless VLTD compliance requirements are fulfilled.
